William Albert Allard - The West

One of my favourite photojournalists is William Albert Allard, whose work I first came across in the pages of National Geographic.

His use of colour and dynamic compositions are really quite unusual in the world of photojournalism. His work closes the gap that often seems to exist, god knows why, between so called 'art' photography and documentary photography.

From my favourite photo essay of his, here are 2 photographs from the 'Out West' series.

Henry Gray, rancher, Arizona, 1970

Stan Kendall, Nevada 1979
